The Pizza Pepperoni Reverie

We went outside

As darkness crept once again

On the same familiar streets

But it wasn’t any night

For it was that one time

When mother Earth completed

Another full rotation

In the form of space flotation

Around the same old

Light giving ball of fire

Me and my poet buddy

Entered the realm of fantasy

As all we could see

Were all sorts of fairies,

Dandies

Beauty queens

Slick machos

Wizards and witches

With or without stitches

Spawned from various corners

Some from across different borders

We enter a pizza joint

We grab the menu and inspect

Analyze and characterize

Every single type of pizza

We could see

We spend a good while

Thinking what to get

What to enjoy

What would be the best damn option

What combination of ingredients

Would satisfy our taste buds

In the best way possible

Should it be this cheese

Or that cheese?

What kind of pesto

And which mushrooms?

Decisions, decisions

But then it hit us

The answer was always there

Looking straight at us

The answer was lying in the question

Which made the question itself obsolete

We both looked at each other

And agreed on pizza pepperoni

It was looking at us

And we were looking right at it

From the very first second

We knew from the very beginning

Long before stepping into that place

That pizza pepperoni would be the answer

To solve that existential dilemma

We were lying to ourselves

Looking at other pizza types

Trying to reach new hypes

While deep down

All we ever wanted

Was pizza pepperoni

So simple, so eclectic

A symbolic and eternal pizza item

That would never go away

A thick soft dough

Covered in tomato sauce

And Mozzarella cheese

Where several pepperoni slices

Live all together

In perfect harmony

That’s all it really takes

To make the 2 of us

Be grateful for a day well spent

For Earth completing once again

Another successful rotation

Around the Sol Invictus

As called by the Romans

Rotation which for some reason

Made so many people

Act like all sorts of characters

And bring to life the fairy land

Surrounding us

But not even all those fairies

Sharing that space with us

Had the power to distract us

From the sacred yet simple

Pizza pepperoni

We thought we wanted more

We thought about ordering

Something special

Something we didn’t try before

Something to summon a new lore

And give new sensations to our core

But it turned out it had to be

Only pizza pepperoni

Only that and nothing more

Deep down we’re all the same

Saying inside the same old name

And what do we say?

Pizza pepperoni

For that is what we are

Deep inside we’re all the same

And what are we?

Pizza pepperoni

A simple mix of basic ingredients

That get us going

And that are enough

For a tasty life

Where the presence of fairies

Isn’t always a must

Just an occasional lust

A new year is right

Around the corner

And every bite

Of the pizza pepperoni

Brings us closer

To a new resolution

For we had just realized

That we are what we eat

And what are we?

That’s right
